Clarissa was born about 1821 to Spences Lathrop and Clarissa Tupper, and she married Harry S Clark 25 Dec 1845. Spencer was either the eldest of second eldest son of Ezekiel Lathrop and Lydia Crocker, who came to Susquehanna County in 1801 from New London, CT.....their daughter Lydia Lathrop (Spencer's sister) married John Pneuman about 1815 in Springville, Susquehanna County.

Spencer died very young on 12 Jan 1825 and Clarissa (Spencer's wife) must have struggled because their children Oliver, Polly and Clarissa appear on the annual tax lists as poor children which meant that the township paid for their schooling.

    -------
Nehemiah Lathrop was a blacksmith and lived all his life in what became Dimock township.. he was the eldest son of Ezekiel and Lydia Lathrop born abour 1788 in CT. He came to PA with his parents in 1801 and later married Marcia Tupper. According to the 1830 census, they had 5 sons and 3 more daughters, and she was between 30 and 40 at the time. By 1840, they had 3 more daughters.

Nehemiah was alive in 1870 at the age of 82, and Marcia died "at her home near Elk Lake on 9 Sep 1881 aged 89" accordng to the national record

    -------
Spencer was, I believe, the second son of Ezekiel and Lydia. He married Clarissa Tupper in Rush, Sep 1808. He was a farmer according to the Springville Tax records, but apparently didn't prosper. The republican reports his early death on 12 Jan 1825

In The TUPPER Genealogy, there is a statement:

"In company with Deacon William LATHROP, moved from Unadilla, NY
to Rush Twp, Susquehanna Co., PA about 1799."

Also, Clarissa's sister, Maria, married Nehemiah LATHROP so I would think
William is a contender for Spencer's father.

“Lathrop History” (From the Collection of Susquehanna County Historical Society, Montrose, PA)HISTORY

Dea. William Lathrop married Sarah Brown February 8, 1796. She died August 18, 1839. They had fourteen(?) children, the last two being twins. He married for a second wife Sarah Fairbrother February 2, 1840. They had one child, Anson, born May 31, 1841…Dea. William Lathrop died April 18, 1865. His second wife died December 9, 1884. He moved from Unadilla, New York to Rush, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, in the winter of 1800-1801, with an ox team, passing through what is now Montrose – was then all woods.

The year 1799 witnessed a rapid increase in the number of settlers on the East Branch, or main stream of the Wyalusing. Nathan Tupper and William Lathrop came together, from Unadilla, NY, locating at what is now Grangerville. They cut their road a part of the distance…Deacon Lathrop’s cabin had only a blanket for a door, and he was obliged to pile up wood against it at night to keep out the wolves. His location was at the mouth of Lake Creek. He lived here until his death in 1865, in his ninetieth year. Of the ten children of Wm. Lathrop, only two, Nelson and Catherine (widow of Eben Picket of Jessup), are living in Susquehanna County.
