  • Notes
    • James seems to have been the second of the Lathrops born in Ohio after the removal from New York State. He enlisted May 2, 1864, in 130 Ohio National Guard, Company G and served until honorably discharged on September 22, 1864. Tradition has it that he worked as an engineer on the railroad between Toledo and Adrian, Michigan, which passed through Sylvania and was the first railroad constructed west of the Appalachians. James owned and operated a farm for several years in Richfield Township. He sold the farm in 1900 and moved to Sylvania, where he lived until his death in 1910.
