1253 KIEHLE, David Litchard, educator, was born in Dansville, N.Y., Feb. 7, 1837 ; son of James and Elizabeth (Litchard) Kiehle and grandson of Abraham Kiehle and of John Litchard.

His first ancestor in America emigrated from Germany in the eighteenth century and settled in Lehigh county. Pa. David attended the State normal school at Albany, X.Y., in 1856, and was gradu- ated from Hamilton college, A.B., 1861. A.M., 1864, and fi'om the Union Theological seminary in 1865. He was married, July 17, 1863, to Mary Oilman. He was ordained to the Presbyterian ministry in 1865, and was pastor of tlie Presbj'- terian church at Preston, Minn., 1865-75 ; countj' superintendent of schools in Fillmore county, Minn., 1869-75 ; president of the State normal school at St. Cloud, Minn., 1875-81 ; state super- intendent of public instruction of Minnesota, 1881-93, and was elected professor of pedagogy in the University of Minnesota in 1893 and presi- dent of the department of superintendence of the National Educational association in 1894. His son, Frederick A. Kiehle, was graduated M.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1901. Pro- fessor Kieiile received the degree of LL.D. from Hamilton college in 1887.

In this same area, the Benjamin Clark house was also burnt. Benjamin and his wife Dorcas were able to flee and safely make it to the garrison along with their children (twins Hannah and Benjamin age 10; Theophilus age 6, Tabitha age 4, and Timothy age 2) before their house also went up in flames. Clark's house was the original Peak House.

1261 Lester was the fourth child of Orson and Caroline (Nutting) Potter. On September 12, 1859 he married Clarissa Clark in Bangor, New York. He enlisted in the 142nd New York Volunteer Infantry in 1862, was severely injured at Drewry's Bluff, VA and was discharged in 1865.
After the war, he moved his family to Iowa, where he and Clarissa raised six children - Ova, Orson, Lindon, Linda, Carly and Lena. (From notes on the Find-a Grave site)

Wilmot Township.

The township of Wilmot was formed in 1859, and named in honor of Hon. David Wilmot, a distinguished lawyer, member of congress, and author of the famous "Wilmot Proviso." It is bounded on the north by the Susquehanna river and Teny township, on the east by Wyoming county, on the-south by Sullivan county, on the west by Albany township. It is a very rich and productive township, and embraces a large quantity of alluvial lands, with very desirable table lands.

was an American soldier and political leader from New York. He was characterized by historian Mark M. Boatner as "one of the truly outstanding American leaders of the Revolution

1282 Marinus Willett Pike (1782-1861) was a carver and gilder of frames in Philadelphia. Gilded frames in this period were expensive, and Pike made some of the finest in Philadelphia, including those for portraits by Philadelphia painter Bass Otis (1784-1861).

Also - This copy with an early ink ownership inscription on the verso of the dedication leaf (preliminary p. [8]): "Marinus Willett Pikes Book / Decmbr 23 1810/ [flourish]" and at the head of p. 1: "Marinus Willett Pikes / Book December 23 1810 / Cosin to Z. M. Pike."

Fran Hart (class of '32) died Oct. 13, 2005. He was 96.

He prepared at St. Paul's School in Concord, N.H. At Princeton he was in Ivy Club. Freshman and sophomore years he roomed with Cap Wister, and junior and senior years with Lew Van Dusen, Buzz Roberts, and Cap Wister.

After Princeton, Fran graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. He then spent two years interning in Philadelphia and a year's residence in Boston. His general practice was interrupted by Pearl Harbor.

In our 25-year book, Fran wrote: "The Army ordered me to become an X-ray specialist, which I did as best I could for a couple of years in the South Pacific. After my return to civilian life I took about three more years training in the field, which led to my present job of chief of radiology at Montgomery Hospital in Norristown, Pa."

Fran is survived by Maria, his wife of 51 years, and son Joshua, to whom the class extends its sincere condolences. The Class of 1932

1300 MELBOURNE – Carl William Bailey, 87, of Sidney died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at Batesville.

Born June 28, 1914, in DeWitt, he was the son of John and Dell Bailey. He was a sawmill operator and attended Concord Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, James Bailey of Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Marion Herrington of Sidney and Sharon Jeffery of Batesville; a half brother, Ernest Dean Bailey of Yuma, Ariz.; a sister, Osie Duke of Sidney; 25 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Janie Bailey; his wife, Noba Ann Stroud Bailey; two sons, Douglas Bailey and Paul Bailey; four brothers, Ray Bailey, General Bailey, Elmer Bailey and Silas Bailey; five half brothers, Charles Bailey, John Henry Bailey, Vernie Lee Bailey, Deek “Earnie” Bailey and Dan Bailey; and two half sisters, Cybl Bailey and Sylvia Bailey.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cornerstone Baptist Church with the Rev. Matthew Adam and the Rev. Alvin Wiles officiating. Burial will be in Barren Fork Cemetery with arrangements by Eddie’s Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.

Pallbearers will be Mark Herrington, Rickey Bailey, Jimmy Bailey, Aaron Jeffery, Randy Guiltner and Brian Vest.

Honorary pallbearers will be Toro Sullins, Terry Kimble, Allen Bailey and James Bailey.
