- Walter attended public schools in Toledo, Ohio, and graduated from Scott High School there in 1921. He attended the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. After a few years in other business, in 1928 he joined his father in the firm of Geo. W. Lathrop and Sons, in the real estate, insurance and building business. In later years the firm confined itself to the contracting business in the building of industrial, business buildings and hospitals. He became President of the company in 1936 and Chairman of the Board in 1967. The name of the firm was changed to the Lathrop Company and it became one of the leading building contractors in the middle west. While it is based in Toledo, it operates throughout the neighboring states. Walter has been active in the Toledo Boys Club and other charities, and in Rotary. He is a director of the Toledo Trust Company and several other business organizations.
