    Notes:

    Joseph spent his boyhood in Painesville, OH, and New Hope, PA. After graduating from New Hope High School at the age of 16, Joseph went West. Until 1929, he was in business in Butte, MT, and later in Duluth, MN with the Marshall-Wells Company. That same year Joseph joined management consulting firm Barrington Associates, Inc., of New York, as vice-president and senior consultant, In 1941, He was elected president, a position he held until his death in 1950.
    Joseph joined the U.S. Army in World War I, serving in the AEF in France as a Captain in the Artillery. A big man, about six-foot-three, Joe has an exceptionally keen mind, a wonderful sense of humor, and a broad point of view. Though he never attended college, Jose was an unusually well-read man.
