Kerry Lee Kilmer, 61, of Willard passed away unexpectedly July 2, 2013 at his home.
Born in 1951 on a farm and ranch, he grew up milking cows and growing wheat. He graduated from Prairie High School in 1969. He received a Certificate in IT in Kansas City, KS before being drafted into the US Army in May of 1970. Kerry served in Vietnam, and was taught to be a killer and survivor. He was one of 16 men of 160 that returned to Hawaii in August of 1971 and always acknowledged that his mother "prayed him home". He spent another year touring Europe "trying to forget Vietnam". Upon returning home to the Willard, Stoneham, New Raymer Community, he farmed with his dad. He proudly proclaimed that he married the Coach of Prairie HS Girls , Maggie Kilmer (McAllister), in 1976. He raised two kids – Matt Kilmer born in 1979 and Kim Torluemke (Kilmer) in 1982.
During Kerry's lifetime he was a sports fan through and through to his kids and communities - never missing a high school sporting event of either of his kids and rarely a college one of Kim's. He was a socialite and a homebody all in one. He was a tinkerer, fixer and repairman of anything and everything, and a farmer deep in his bones and soul. He often said he loved to watch the crops grow.
He was a proud Papa to his grandsons Owen and Eli Kilmer and Lawrence Torluemke. He was so proud that his son returned to the family farm and that his daughter graduated from the Colorado School of Mines and has a successful career. Family was extremely important to him.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie Kilmer, mother-in-law Anna McAllister (Sterling), brother Kenny Kilmer (Owatonna MN), son Matt Kilmer and wife Beth (Willard, Co), daughter Kim Torluemke and husband Mark (Littleton, Co), and grandchildren Owen and Eli Kilmer and Lawrence Torluemke (who's sports he'll watch from afar). He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Proceeded in death by his parents Esther (2002) and Vernon (1999) Kilmer.
Visitation Sunday, July 7, 2013 with family receiving friends from 3pm until 5pm at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home.
Services will be held at the Berean Church in Sterling, Co on July 8th at 2pm. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery. There will be a dinner following the burial at the Stoneham Community Building.
Memorial Contributions can be made in his honor to the New Raymer Lions Club and Chapel of the Plains Church.
